The expansion to Denver, Colorado, marks the first international manufacturing facility for SMA Solar Technology AG, which produces solar inverters. Inverters convert the direct current electricity produced by solar photovoltaic panels to alternating current electricity.
It will manufacture its Sunny Boy, Sunny Central and Sunny Island lines, for residential, small solar plants and off-grid systems, respectively, to serve North America.
“In the medium term, we expect the US market to become the largest solar market globally,” states Günther Cramer, chief executive of SMA Solar.
