Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, is working under a memorandum of understanding with the Department of the Navy to finalize project details.
Initial plans call for the PV plant to be operational by the end of 2016. It will be located on the base in Albany in southwest Georgia.
Each branch of the military has made commitments to procure and produce 1GW of renewable energy at their permanent installations (and/or on 65,000 sq km of military land opened up for development).
