ESolar, based in California, built the 5MW Sierra SunTower project in 2009. It is currently North America’s only commercial solar power tower project.
The system includes a field of small mirrors or heliostats surrounding boilers set atop towers. The company uses computer vision technology to set up and control the mirror field, comprised of pre-fabricated assemblies designed for quick and easy installation.
Flextronics will provide electromechanical design services for eSolar’s future solar collector system requirements, in pursuit of “cost reduction targets of our customers”, says eSolar chief executive John Van Scoter.
