First Solar sets CdTe module efficiency record at 14.4%

First Solar achieved the total area efficiency record, which the Arizona company says has been confirmed by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory , using commercial-scale equipment at its factory in Ohio.

The record is another feather in First Solar's cap, following its capture of the world CdTe cell efficiency mark, 17.3%, in 2011.

But First Solar still appears to be shooting lower than General Electric (GE), which made an aggressive move into CdTe solar last year and targets 14% efficiency for production modules from its planned 400MW Colorado factory by early 2013.
