That’s the conclusion of a study from Toronto-based research and advocacy group ClearSky Advisors, which seeks to quantify the job-creation potential of the year-old FIT programme. The FIT was launched as part of a broader effort in Ontario to eliminate the use of coal-fired power plants and grow a renewable energy economy in the province.

But questions are being raised in Ontario and elsewhere about whether the costs of a FIT – particularly one supporting solar, which costs more than other electricity sources – is worth the benefit.
