About 13GW of new PV capacity was added across the EU last year, with more than 70% of the additions coming from small and mid-sized systems, according to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association.
In contrast, just 9.3GW of wind capacity was added, due to weakness in the onshore market, according to the European Wind Energy Association.
However, wind still holds the title for cumulative installed capacity, with 84GW compared to PV’s 28GW.
