The facility will be located on property at the base, but also serve civilian customers in the region. Duke plans commercial operation later this year.
It will provide power at the same rate that Duke is charging the base now for electricity. There is no long-term purchase contract.
Should Duke’s grid experience a problem, the facility would be able to operate independently to ensure the base continues to receive power, Duke spokesman Randy Wheeless tells Recharge.
