The company has picked 10 new sites for a distributed solar generation programme, in which Duke Energy Carolinas – a utility – leases roof space to install panels. The company intends to add 4.1 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic panels atop schools, government facilities, and commercial buildings around the state. Duke is intentionally selecting sites with good visibility, which “helps build knowledge and understanding of solar energy”, says Brett Carter, president of Duke Energy Carolinas.
