President Barack Obama has directed federal agencies to work towards obtaining 20% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.
The largest PV project is a 5MW ground-mounted system at the US Army’s Fort Campbell in Kentucky. DOE says its funding will encourage further solar deployment in an area of the country underserved by renewables. The Army can apply lessons learned to other large-scale, landfill-based PV projects, it adds.
