Xcel Energy unit Public Service Company of Colorado will buy energy from the Alamosa Solar project, scheduled to come online in the second quarter of 2012, under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Xcel vice president of commercial operations Tom Imbler says: “Photovoltaic and solar generation have a better match to our peak load than does other intermittent renewables like wind.”
Amonix is supplying the technology to be used at the project, which would about 1sq km in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, adjacent to Xcel transmission lines.
