The 1MW photovoltaic plant, Calama Solar 3, will be located near Calama on 6.25 hectares, and will supply the Chuquicamata work centre.
Calama Solar 3 will be built without subsidies, and will consist of 4,080 silicon modules.
The region has solar radiation of about 2,500kwh/m2 per year, and the plant is expected to generate 2.69/GWh each year. Solarpack says it will be the most productive plant of its type in the world with a capacity factor of 31%.
