Australia’s biggest solar project is on the rocks

Plans for Australia’s biggest solar plant have been thrown into disarray after the company leading the project was placed into administration.

Developer Solar Systems had received promises of $129m in state and federal-government funding to build a 154-megawatt (MW) plant costing $420m ($362m) near Mildura, Victoria using heliostat-concentrator photovoltaic (PV) technology.

The system uses sun-tracking mirrors to focus light on receivers that house PV modules.

Solar Systems announced on 7 September that it has placed itself into voluntary administration, appointing accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers to take over the company.
