The municipal utility will contract for up to this amount by 2017, if available and affordable, Carlos Cordova, spokesman for Austin Energy, tells Recharge.
If not, Austin Energy will continue to pursue the 600MW of additional utility-scale solar within its 2025 Generation Plan.
“We will purchase what is affordable and when it is affordable,” he says. “We continue to operate under affordability goals set by the City Council to keep our rates no higher than a 2% increase each year and to keep our rates no higher than a two percent increase year, and to keep our bills in the bottom 50% of all utilities in Texas.”
