Yingli in China JV with coal giant

Yingli Solar is to set up a joint venture with one of China’s largest coal groups to develop PV plants in Shuozhou city, Shanxi province.

The JV is with Shuozhou Coal Power, a subsidiary of Datong Coal Mine Group – the third-largest state-owned coal mining operation in China, according to a Yingli statement.

The two have already worked together on a 20MW project in Shanxi province, where Yingli supplied the modules and provided EPC services.

Yingli CEO Liansheng Miao said: "This partnership provides Yingli Solar with a strategic avenue to expand our domestic downstream business.

“By leveraging advantages of both companies, we will be able to accelerate the project development and bring significant benefits to all parties involved."

Datong Coal said the deal with the world's largest module supplier would help it meet its clean power-generation targets.
