The planned solar projects will be located on Long Island where LIPA owns the retail electric transmission and distribution system, and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers.

To encourage solar investment in designated areas, a 7 cent per kWh will be available for projects built there. Reducing the load constraint in these areas will help defer, reduce or eliminate the need to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in building new generation, infrastructure, and transmission and distribution lines, according to LIPA.
