Switzerland-based ABB – a global giant in the power and automation sectors – took on the Arizona factory through its $1bn acquisition of US-based Power-One in 2013. At the time, Power-One was the world’s second largest inverter supplier, trailing only Germany’s SMA Solar.
The Arizona factory had 450 employees when ABB took it over, but was already down to 200 before the latest layoffs were announced, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.
