The huge third stage follows the construction of a 13MW pilot project, operational since 2013 and equipped by First Solar of the US.
Earlier this year DEWA named a consortium led by Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power and Spain's TSK as preferred bidder to build the 200MW PV second stage, after a tender that the utility said attracted a record-low power price of $0.06/kWh.
The third phase tender is expected to be launched in the third quarter of this year, said DEWA, which claims the solar complex is one of the world’s largest to be developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model.
