The three-year joint programme by the economics and energy ministry and the science ministry will support ten research projects running until 2017-18 to secure and improve the competitiveness of the domestic industry.

"The solar sector in Germany will be able to continue to act successfully in growth markets if it brings the results of cutting-edge technology to the market on an industrial scale, and thus achieves advantages in the competition on quality and costs," Eicke Weber, head of the Fraunhofer ISE institute, said at the presentation of the initiative at the Intersolar trade fair in Munich.
