Earlier this week, wholly owned group unit United Photovoltaics (Changzhou) Investment signed an agreement with the municipal authorities in Datong, Shanxi province, to build the project.

“The Datong project signifies industry recognition and market leadership of the group in the solar power industry in China,” it said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange, without disclosing financial terms.

Although it did not reveal a development schedule, the installation will be built as part of the Datong Demonstration Base, under which the regional authorities aim to install 3GW of solar capacity through 2017.
