Vivint Solar, which derives nearly all of its revenue from rooftop solar leases, booked 73MW of orders during the second quarter, up 40% year-on-year.

But SolarCity’s 395MW of bookings during the second quarter represented a 81% surge on last year, and that growth comes off a larger base.

SolarCity booked more than twice as much capacity as it actually installed during the second quarter – 395MW compared to 189MW – setting itself up for continued growth.
