Buffalo, New York has always been the most likely location for Solar Frontier's first overseas factory, although Saudi Arabia and Turkey have also emerged as possibilities.

The Tokyo-based company is owned by Japanese oil refiner Showa Shell Sekiyu, whose largest shareholders are Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Aramco.

Among the possible locations for the overseas factory, the US remains the frontrunner because "it's the most stable, sane market in the long term", says Charles Pimentel, chief operating officer at Solar Frontier Americas Inc.
