In total, 42,500 hectares will be made available for the 30-year concessions. Local press reported that the Public Lands Ministry calculates that $15bn will be invested to develop the projects in Arica, Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Atacama in the north, and Maule in central Chile.
The government leases public land for projects to companies - mainly for renewables and mining - and allows free use for community and environmental development.
