Ciel et Terre/Sunlution secure funds for Brazilian floating PV

France’s Ciel and Terre and local partner Sunlution have secured R$100m ($26m) from Brazilian federal power companies Chesf and Eletronorte to build and test 10MW of floating PV in Brazil over the next three years.

The contract for the funding was signed 15 December.

The partners will build two 5MW arrays on the hydro resevoirs of the 1GW Sobradinho dam, operated by Chesf, and the 275MW Balbina, operated by Eletronorte.

The R$100m will cover the cost of both 5MW installations.

Working alongside Brazilian electric components group WEG and several local universities, Ciel et Terre’s Brazilian unit and Sunlution won a tender to build the R&D projects and introduce floating PV technology to the country.
