The Kyoto-based industrial group and its partner, Century Tokyo Leasing (CTL), first announced plans for the project about a year ago, via their Kyocera TCL Solar venture.

France’s Ciel et Terre is providing its Hydrelio floating platforms for the floating array, which is being built on the 18-hectare Yamakura Dam reservoir, east of Tokyo in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture.

It is expected that the plant will generate about 16.2GWh per year upon completion.

Kyocera will supply about 51,000 solar panels for the installation.

Kyocera TCL Solar expects to finish the project, which is its fourth floating installation, in fiscal 2018.

In September 2014, it announced plans to develop 60MW of floating solar capacity at about 30 sites through early 2016.

Over the past year, the venture has completed 1.7MW, 1.2MW and 2.3MW floating solar projects in Japan.
