US solar market to reach 15GW in 2016: IHS

Led by the utility-scale market, US solar installations will surge 60% this year to reach a record 15GW, with further growth expected in years ahead thanks to the five-year extension of the solar investment tax credit (ITC), according to IHS.

Clinched in December, the ITC extension “breathes new life into the US solar industry”, says Camron Barati, North America solar analyst for IHS Technology.

2016 will be the first year in which the US blows past the 10GW mark on an annual basis. It would have been a big year even without an ITC extension, as developers raced to beat the previous end-2016 deadline.
