Should GTM’s forecast prove right, it would mean that in 2016 the US solar industry will install more capacity in a single year than the wind industry ever has.
The biggest-ever year for US wind installations so far was 2012, with 13.2GW added. Historically, the US wind market has dwarfed solar, although the competition between the two has been getting tighter in recent years.
