The London-based group says that recent moves by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) could expedite the construction of projects in the final six months of 2014, following an extended period of relatively sluggish development.

Government statistics show that the nation’s cumulative PV capacity had reached approximately 13.5GW by the end of February.

The changes include a new METI rule stating that developers that lock in feed-in tariff (FIT) authorisations this year need to secure land and equipment for their projects within 180 days of approval.

“These
