The project — located near the city of Suwa, in Nagano prefecture — started feeding electricity into the grid on 1 October.

It will generate enough electricity to supply power to 2,600 homes per year, Sharp said in an online statement.

Last week, the company said it had started building a 2.6MW ground-mount array in Kawauchi, Fukushima prefecture. The project is situated just outside of the nuclear-radiation exclusion zone established by the Japanese government in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.
