DEWA opens bids for 800MW project

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has put forth an expression of interest (EOI) call for the third 800MW phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

Earlier this year, it selected a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and Spain’s TSK to construct the second, 200MW phase of the project, following a record-low bid of $0.058/kWh.

The initial, 13MW phase of the project started generating electricity in 2013.

DEWA said in an online statement that it will close bids for the third phase at the end of this month.

The state utility expects the successful developers to commission the third phase of the project throughout 2018.

It plans to buy the electricity generated by the project from the winning independent power producer through a power purchase agreement of 25 years.

It said it is still “on the right track” to eventually build the multi-phase project out to a total capacity of 3GW.
