Trina splits downstream business as divisional boss quits

Trina Solar is splitting its downstream-focused System Business Unit (SBU) in two, following the departure of former divisional head Qi Lin.

The global PV module number-one will restructure the SBU into one unit concentrating on domestic Chinese development and EPC, with a separate International SBU focused on foreign projects.

Trina said former SBU head Lin has resigned, without giving further details, as it named his former deputy Jiqing Gao as head of the China SBU.

A statement from Trina does not mention who will lead the new International SBU, but says the split “is designed to reflect the company's strategy and ambitions to become a first-tier global player in the downstream business”.

Trina CEO Jifan Gao said: "I am excited about the new SBU structure that will allow us to give dedicated focus to the two strategically important yet very different China and Overseas downstream businesses."

The company saw another senior departure in October, when long-standing European boss Ben Hill resigned.

CEO Gao earlier this week tabled a buyout offer that would take the New York-listed company private if accepted by shareholders.
