Following approval of the project last month by the California Energy Commission, BrightSource “now has all of the necessary permits to commence construction” of Ivanpah, a solar power tower project in California’s Mojave Desert, the company says.

The federal approval, necessary because Ivanpah is to be built on 3,471 acres (14 sq km) controlled by the Bureau of Land Management, is the third for a California solar project.
