The commission gave its unanimous approval to the second Tessera project, 663.5MW Calico Solar in San Bernardino County. It follows an approval from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and essentially completes the permitting process for Calico.

The commission decision is the seventh large-scale solar project approval in California in the last two months. The projects represent some 3.5GW of nameplate capacity. The commission has two more projects on its agenda before the end of the year – Palen (500MW) and Rice (150MW) – as regulators try to finalize their decisions in time for developers to begin construction ahead of a 31 December deadline to qualify for federal economic stimulus funds.
