Modultec, owned by Zurich-listed Meyer Burger, will establish a 15MW integrated production line for SPEC in the Senegalese capital of Dakar. The factory will be the first in West Africa, and will have the capacity to expand to 25MW.
SPEC chief executive Mamadou Saliou Sow says the crystalline silicon modules will be sold in Africa, a market deemed to to have extraordinary potential for solar energy given its levels of irradiation and lack of grid access, but which has so far seen only a few tiny installations put in place.
