While the developers of Brazil's 2.8GW of utility-scale solar need to redo their maths because of a devalued local currency, the rooftop PV sector is one of the few sectors with growing demand in a slow economy.

Many solar components are already made in Brazil, albeit with some adaptations.

Still, for the sector to continue growing, the government needs to guarantee the continuation of its utility-scale auction programme to justify investments in the supply chain, according to the Brazilian Association of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Abinee, which represents the supply chain and published one of the first reference studies of the sector in 2011.
