The Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) registry system includes a VCS project database, and aims to ensure all Voluntary Carbon Unit (VCU) credits can be tracked from issue to retirement.
It is a key part of the VCS programme to ensures that all VCUs are real, measurable, additional, permanent, independently verified, unique and traceable, the association says.
Three international companies have been contracted to act as registries for the VCS programme.
