Industry groups organising themselves under the 1603 Coalition banner have drafted a letter to Congressional leaders – with support from 763 companies and groups – asking for a one-year extension to the grant, which expires on 31 December.

The grant has already been extended once – days before it was due to expire in 2010.

The Treasury Department's 1603 Program gives developers of wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, hydrokinetic, combined heat and power and fuel-cell projects a cash payment for 30% of eligible costs in lieu of tax credits.
