That the government is cutting the FIT for larger projects comes as no surprise to industry observers. But sources say the cuts are significantly harsher than the worst-case scenarios envisaged by project developers and the supply chain.
The proposed changes, which the government intends to implement by August, would knock more than 40% off the remuneration for a 50kw installation – a typical size for a hospital or school – and more than 70% off multi-megawatt green-field arrays such as those approved by local municipalities in Cornwall.
