In addition to boosting security of electricity supply in the UK and northern Europe, the 380kV transmission line will also cater to an expected rise in energy demand in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague and Utrecht – the four largest Dutch cities – as well as the surrounding Randstad region, one of the most densely populated regions in Europe.
