In addition to boosting security of electricity supply in the UK and northern Europe, the 380kV transmission line will also cater to an expected rise in energy demand in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague and Utrecht – the four largest Dutch cities – as well as the surrounding Randstad region, one of the most densely populated regions in Europe.
“The EIB’s support reflects the benefits both for Dutch electricity consumers and electricity markets in northwestern Europe,” says Simon Brooks, the EIB’s vice president responsible for lending in The Netherlands.
