Siemens bags HVDC order for Germany's SylWin cluster

Siemens has won a major contract to install a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) grid connection for the SylWin cluster of offshore wind farms in the German North Sea for Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT.

Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München’s (SWM) 288MW DanTysk project will be the first to patch into the SylWin cluster, with Siemens and Italian cable maker Prysmian acting in concert to build and link that project up.

Siemens will use its proprietary HVDC Plus technology for SylWin, and with a length of 160km, the subsea cable will be the longest ever used at an offshore wind farm.
