The Idaho Tax Commission has walked back its previous report as the Gemstone State grapples with a budget deficit and whether to extend the expiring tax rebate, which has helped drive wind energy development. It now calls the rebates “net neutral” in terms of their impact to the budget.
The incentive, implemented in 2005, gives back the 6% sales tax levied on generating equipment as a way to encourage developers to build wind projects in the state.
