The firms are competing for three contracts worth an estimated £1.1bn ($1.74bn) to construct subsea interconectors to Gwynt y Mor, Lincs and the first phase of the London Array – with a combined capacity of more than 1.4GW.

The eight companies are Balfour Beatty, Blue Transmission, Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings, Green Energy Transmission, Mitsubishi Corporation, National Grid Offshore, Transmission Capital Partners and Ventran Consortium.
