The 48MW Copper Mountain Solar 1 plant, developed by Sempra Generation and built by First Solar using its cadmium-telluride thin-film panels, came online in 2010, benefitting from federal tax incentives expanded by the Obama administration. California utility Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is buying power from the project. A 150MW expansion of the project is under way. The added capacity, 92MW of which is to come online in early 2013, with the remainder due by 2015, is also contracted to PG&E.
