Of the $2.57bn VC investors poured into clean-tech companies during the first quarter, $641m went to solar companies, with transportation following in second place, according to market researcher Cleantech Group.
The solar sector was led by a $201m funding round for BrightSource Energy, lifting to $530m the amount of equity the California-based solar-thermal developer has attracted in the past few years.
