The company’s GreenHunter Mesquite Lake subsidiary purchased the facility, near El Centro, Imperial County, California, from Chateau Energy in May 2007. Last year, it signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for the plant’s output – up to 27MW – with the Imperial Irrigation District, a public water and power utility serving a major agricultural region in Southern California. The plant must begin delivering electricity no later than 20 June 2011.

GreenHunter, which also has a biodiesel refinery and wind development assets, struggled with a capital deficit last year, slowing its progress on bringing the idled Mesquite Lake plant into production.
