The judge, Antonio Carlos de Almeida Campelo, in Altamira city agreed with a federal prosecutor who filed civil action alleging irregularities in the 11-gigawatt (GW) project.
Campelo suspended the environmental license issued in February by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, Ibama, and put a stop to the national tender.
An emergency preliminary injunction was awarded as a result of the “danger of irreversible damages” that could be caused by the imminent tender.
