The European Commission has finished collecting energy forecasts from all 27 EU member states as it seeks to gauge the bloc’s progress under 2009’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
Under the directive, each country was given a national renewables target based on their natural resources, existing renewables capacity, and per capita gross domestic product.
The targets range from land-poor Luxembourg’s 11% to hydro-rich Sweden’s 49%.
