On 4 October a new centre-left coalition led by Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt’s Social Democrats took command of the Danish parliament, having ousted the centre-right coalition under Anders Fogh Rasmussen, which had held power since 2009.
Among the new coalition’s sweeping agenda, it has jacked-up Denmark’s already aggressive climate and renewables targets, and now aims to source half the country’s electricity from wind by 2020 – up from a little more than 20% today, already one of the highest penetrations in the world.
