To be eligible for a 30% cash grant from the US Treasury, projects must begin construction by the end of 2010. The grant programme, created through the federal economic stimulus bill, is in lieu of federal tax credit supports for renewable projects. Few developers have been able to use the tax credits in the last year because they typically require the partnership of a large financial institutions, most of which pulled out of the market late last year.
