The “Cancún Agreements” delayed a final decision on extending the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol to next year’s COP17 in Durban, to the ire of developing nations like Bolivia.

Since day one of the two-week talks, Japan has been adamant in its stance against signing onto a second commitment period, saying it prefers the Copenhagen Accord because it covers 80% of emissions in the world as opposed to the 27% of the Kyoto Protocol.
