China to boost solar target and scale back on nuclear: reports

China intends swell its 2020 target for solar energy and scale back its plans for nuclear power, as the latest country to see its energy policy fall victim to the Japanese nuclear disaster.

The full extent of the changes remains unclear. Earlier this week, a report in the state-run Xinhua news agency indicated Beijing would double the country’s 2020 PV target to 10GW while placing more stringent safety requirements on nuclear plants.

However, updates coming out of China now suggest the country will embrace a 20GW solar target, with an unspecified amount sourced from PV.
